More Information

At course completion, the student will be able to install, configure, administrate, maintain and perform fault isolation to the field replaceable unit (FRU) level using a variety of managment tools, interfaces and utilities. This course also introduces the student to performance tuning and evaluation by testing a configuration utilizing techniques such as filesystem RAID stripe alignment, command tagged queuing, altering storage system parameters, and configuring multi-pathing.

Prerequisites

  • Students should have SGI Linux -series based server experience
  • It is recommended but not required that students should have successfully completed the ISMA or TPSSA course.

Skills Addressed:

  • Describe the features of the various storage arrays
  • Describe the hardware components of the storage arrays
  • Correctly cable storage systems to servers and storage area networks (SANs)
  • Use graphical user interface, command line interface, shell commands, and the script editor to configure, monitor, and manage the array
  • Install and configure storage array premium features
  • Interpret Interpret Read Link Status (RLS) and Switch On Chip (SOC) statistical information for fault isolation.
  • Configure a filesystem and storage array for optimal performance

Delivery Options:

  • Standard classroom and lab at the scheduled training center
  • On-site classes available on request

Site and Material Requirements:
An SGI Linux-based server configured with a dual-port Host Bus Adapter (HBA) or Host Channel Adapter (HCA) for Fibre Channel, SAS, or Infiniband RAID Controllers and an fore-mentioned EBOD and RAID storage syatem with appropriate cables per student group. Optionally, a Fibre Channel and/or InfiniBand switch is recommended to demonstrate SAN and cluster-based configurations. Each student group will require a workstation to run the management tools and utilities.
