This course introduces the student to the SGI Copan 400 Enterprise Massive Array of Idle Disks (MAID) storage platform. MAID is a storage technology that employs a large group of disk drives in which only those drives in active use are spinning at any given time. This reduces power consumption and prolongs the life of the drives. MAID is designed for Write Once Read Occasionally (WORO) applications.
At course completion the student will be able to install, configure, administer, maintain and perform fault isolation to the field replaceable unit (FRU) level using a variety of management tools, interfaces and utilities. Configuration will include setting up a native MAID and then reconfiguring the storage array as a Virtual Tape Library (VTL) using the Application Processor's licensed FalconStor library emulation software.
